The Mars Society

Founded in 1998, the Mars society is instrumental in exploring the technologies that will allow humans to colonize Mars. Robert Zubrin, the society’s president, is one of the most widely acknowledged authorities on all things Mars, and in particular how the planet will be settled. The Mars Society sponsors several research projects for collegiate teams around the world to develop technologies that will be instrumental in establishing human outposts on Mars, and the organization maintains the Mars Desert Research Station in southern Utah and several other facilities that allow researchers to conduct operational simulations in an analog Mars environment. Dr. Zubrin also operates Pioneer Astronautics, a research company that is actively developing the technologies that will make life on Mars viable.
